Vanity – Milan’s Monumental Cemetery

‘Be good, if you can…all the rest is vanity’.

West Norwood Cemetery, London (1837)

The South Metropolitan Cemetery opened in 1837, the second of London’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ great commercial cemeteries. Norwood was the first cemetery ever to be designed throughout in the Gothic style. It became known as the ‘Millionaires’ Cemetery’ due to the many eminent Victorians buried there.
