SIACE Paper Factory, Sicily _ Video Essay

SIACE paper factory was established in 1964. The factory was specialized in the production of Kraft paper for packaging. The company closed down in 1986. Following a number of fires occurred within the SIACE plot, some investigations were carried out revealing the presence of large amounts of Eternit  [asbestos-cement] in many of the factory’s coverings.

In 2000 the Catania Province purchased the derelict SIACE with the intention to remove the asbestos from the area. 14 years have passed since then and the cleansing has not yet ended.
